Blood pressure is the pressure that is exerted upon the
inner walls of your arteries during a heartbeat. There are two different
numbers that are typically associated with blood pressure, the high number or
systolic and the low number or diastolic. The high number is the amount of
pressure that is exerted during a heartbeat while the low number is the
pressure that is inside the arteries in between heartbeats whenever the heart
is refilling with blood. Something that many people are surprised about is the
connection between hypertension and stress.
The simple fact of the matter is that nobody really knows
what causes hypertension in the first place. Hypertension and stress seem to
go hand in hand but that doesn't mean that stress is a determining factor in
who will and who will not have high blood pressure. If you have hypertension
then you may want to control your stress, however, as it could irritate the
situation. One thing is for certain, we all have to deal with stress in our
lives. I don't know of anybody that does not have stressful situations that
they deal with almost on a daily basis. What that doesn't mean, however, is
that you need to allow that stress to run you down. If you learn to control
your stress, you can control other things such as your high blood pressure.
Stress can cause any number of physical problems in a
person. Prolonged stress can also cause mental problems that will be difficult
to correct. Some of the signs of stress include headaches, indigestion,
difficulty sleeping and heart palpitations. There's no doubt that you will
have your own individual list of symptoms that you are experiencing because of
stress.
Although there is not a known condition that causes high
blood pressure in most people, stress should be avoided as it can certainly
have an effect on the blood pressure that you have. Try to spend some time
relaxing every day and don't allow your troubles to get to the level where you
reach your boiling point. By de-stressing on occasion you will certainly help
many aspects of your health, perhaps even your high blood pressure.
